SMT · A Low-Probability Day, Kept Cheap

September 22 — The Indices Wouldn't Agree.

An unfortunate, low-probability day — and the number that matters is how little it cost. ES and YM made lower lows all day while NQ kept making higher prices. That's divergence across the whole complex, and I went looking for NQ to eventually gravitate lower and catch down to the other two. Two attempts. One 6-point loss and one breakeven. The read never got confirmation, so the trades never got size or room.

September 22 — NQ diverging from ES and YM all session, two small attempts, one −6 points and one breakeven
MNQ 1m (with NQ 15m + ES 1m) · SMT against ES on both sides of the range · −6 points and a breakeven
You can see the divergence marked on both ends: SMT against ES at the highs and again at the lows. ES and YM spent the session grinding to lower lows while NQ held up and pushed higher — a genuine signal out of my own model, and the reason I was looking for NQ to come down and meet them. What never arrived was the delivery. NQ kept holding. So both attempts got cut almost immediately rather than argued with — 6 points on the first, flat on the second.
What A Bad Day Should Cost
The divergence was real. The delivery wasn't — and the gap between those two is where discipline gets measured.
Cross-index divergence is a legitimate signal and it's in my own curriculum. ES and YM printing lower lows while NQ pushes higher is exactly the kind of disagreement that usually resolves one way. Usually isn't always. NQ simply refused to come down, and a signal without delivery behind it is a reason to watch, not a reason to keep pressing.

So the honest grade on this day isn't about the read — it's about the size of the hole. A low-probability session where I engaged twice and the whole thing cost six points. Earlier this month a day I had no read on cost 2.8R, because I kept arguing with the market instead of cutting. Today I had a real signal, it didn't deliver, and I let it go both times.

Most of protecting an account isn't won on the good days. It's won on the days like this one, where the setup looks reasonable, the market says no, and you accept the answer for six points instead of insisting for two hundred.
