No Trade · Setups Without A Reason
September 28 — Good-Looking Setups, No Reason To Take Them.
No trade for me today. I went in not even looking to take one — the bias was conflicting to both sides and this morning's call was to stay clear of NQ. Conditions were very, very bad, and I watched a lot of people take losses. So instead of my trade, this recap walks through two longs I know people took, and why neither had a reason behind it.
NO TRADEBias: Stay Clear — Played OutConflicting HTF2 Viewer Longs Broken Down
The Context — Only Two Draws On The Board
NQ 1H · London low + 9/24 PDL · no trade
The only viable draws on liquidity today were the London low and the 9/24 PDL. Everything else was conflicting. The Daily is bullish — we're inside a Daily Bullish FVG and just created a Daily bullish RB — but the 4H had us sitting inside a strong Bearish FVG. If you trade the LH framework you honestly could have gotten away with a short, but it was still high risk because of where we were on the Daily. When the timeframes are fighting like that, there's nothing clean. That's why I stayed out.
Viewer Trade 1 — A+ On The 1m, Not With The HTF
MNQ 1m · London low sweep + IFVG long · failed
This is the one a lot of people took. Sweep of the London lows, IFVG, targeting the EQH / BSL above. On the 1m alone it looks like an A+. Include the HTF and it isn't one. There was a Bearish FVG sitting right above, a 15m Bearish FVG above that, and we had just inversed a 15m Bullish FVG — the HTF was going against you. There was no HTF draw supporting the long at all. A good-looking setup isn't a reason. You need a target and supporting evidence, and that's exactly why it failed.
Viewer Trade 2 — A Pure Pattern Trade
MNQ 1m · accumulation → manipulation → long with no target
This one was a really bad pattern trade. Accumulation, then manipulation down into a 15m Bullish FVG at the open, then a run of the highs. Ask the question: why would NQ manipulate into a 15m gap, then manipulate the highs, then manipulate the lows again, just to target the highs? There was no DOL above. The next 1H swing high was over 150 points away — you'd be targeting the literal swing high that already took all the liquidity out of the market. That's not a model. That's a shape.
The Lesson
If you're not including the HTF, you're trading blind.
Both of these trades looked fine on the 1m. That's the problem. A setup is not a reason. Before you take anything, the HTF has to give you a target and supporting evidence — a draw on liquidity the trade is actually going to.
Trade 1 had the sweep and the IFVG, but a 15m Bearish FVG overhead and no HTF draw. Trade 2 had a pattern and nothing to target. Neither one had a why.
On a day like today, where the Daily says one thing and the 4H says another, the best trade was no trade. Passing was the plan working, not the plan failing.
